Introduction

Marners Rock – Fowey

Stay in one of three beautifully designed apartments with your four-legged friend at your side. No.1, 2 and 3 Marners Rock are set in the heart of Fowey, much-loved for its seaside position with the charming coastal town situated on a steep hill – it is renowned for its characterful history and dreamy estuary views.

A quaint spot with candy-coloured cottages and a handful of interesting boutiques and galleries, Fowey is also home to some brilliant eateries. Apartments are kitted out in tonal Farrow and Ball hues with luxurious interiors and personal touches; think underfloor heating, super-king beds, quality linens, an eclectic mix of artwork and natural wooden furnishings, huge rain showers and deep baths, cosy window seats, floor-to-ceiling glass doors and pretty outdoor balcony spaces.

Dogs are welcome at all of the postcodes where you will find bowls, poo bags and soft rugs for your pals to curl up on.

Where to walk

There are some great walks in the area, with the South West Coast Path right on your doorstep. the nearest seasonal beach, Readymoney Cove, is a 15-minute stroll away (dog restrictions between Easter day and 1st October). It’s a gorgeous spot with its French Chateau-like fortress above, where you will find St Catherine’s Castle and National Trust owned, Covington Woods – climb up through the winding paths that lead to expansive open fields, where your dog can run free.

Both Polridmouth Cove and Menabilly Beach are dog friendly year-round; they’re extremely picturesque with lots of little footpaths to explore.

We particularly love the walk via Polridmouth, climbing the footpath all the way out of the town and then taking the road into Coombe, before dropping down into the cove, and looping back to Readymoney Cove along the South West Coast Path.

We also enjoy the Fowey ‘Hall Walk’ – a brilliant circular route, starting with a ride on the Caffa Mill ferry and returning to Fowey on the Polruan foot-ferry – the latter is a stick’s throw away, and will take you across to the cute fishing village of Polruan, a great spot to soak up the south Cornish coast.

Dine with your dog

Head to Appleton’s, a favourite spot of ours at the hub of Fowey’s busy Fore Street. The two storey restaurant welcomes dogs on the ground floor where they will be looked after with a water bowl and treat. It’s a relaxed spot with a minimal setting to enjoy some delicious dishes – everything is created with an Italian ethos using fresh, seasonal Cornish produce; expect tastiest plates of fresh pasta, made inhouse by Andy, alongside some signature dishes including the flat-ironed steak.

We would highly recommend booking in advance if you plan to visit during the summer months. (see stand-alone listing for further details). We also enjoy the simple, fuss-free informality of Pintxo – dog-friendly inside and out – an authentic tapas bar, serving Spanish style small plates, sherry and wines; a superb spot
when the weather is good, bringing a European vibe to the town.

For seafood lovers, head to North Street Kitchen where dogs are welcome to join you in a rustic open plan, indoor-outdoor restaurant with views over the Fowey estuary – daily-changing menus are packed with seasonal produce and freshest catch of the day.

What Partridge says

The Marners Rock apartments are such fun spots for us canine crew, there’s lots of space and fluffy rugs to curl up on as well as outdoor spaces to sniff the sea air. Close to the town and a short walk to the beach and the coastal paths leading up through open fields and beyond, there’s so much to wag about! Designed for pampered pooches, I felt entirely at home.
