Hotel Endsleigh – Tavistock

Introduction

Set among 100 acres of beautiful gardens and woodlands, Hotel Endsleigh’s dreamy position in the Tamar Valley is in a class of its own. Enjoy staying in the midst of the lush Devon countryside, with your hound at your heels. Owned and designed by hotelier Olga Polizzi, it is one of Devon’s most loved spots. There are 19 individually designed rooms available, all of which are dog-friendly, where your pal will find a bed and bowl as well as some tasty treats. The eclectic design cleverly fuses old with new, creating an elegant aesthetic with some unique furnishings. Guests can relish in the utter peace, with no traffic, aircraft noise or light pollution, just the soothing sound of the river Tamar. It’s little wonder the Duke of Bedford, who owned a third of Devon, chose this spot for his hunting and fishing lodge.

Where to walk

Explore the extensive gardens and surrounding woodland, home to follies and grottos, designed by Humphry Repton, with lawns that sweep down towards the River Tamar.  Your furry friends will be spoilt for choice of great walking spots with both Dartmoor and Bodmin Moor in easy reach of a half-hour drive.

Dine with your dog

Dogs are welcome to join you in the private dining room or in the garden whilst you enjoy dishes that take inspiration from the surrounding countryside. In keeping with tradition, afternoon tea is a highlight of every day, where guests are invited to indulge in an array of cakes, scones and sandwiches. For those who prefer to dine out, there are a multitude of great dog-friendly pubs nearby. We can highly recommend the Cornish Arms, serving good honest food in the heart of Tavistock, also the Springer Spaniel, a traditional Cornish pub known for its fresh, seasonal produce, the Dartmoor Inn for pub classics and the 15th century Royal Inn, located on the Tamar Trail in the beautiful Tamar valley – an ideal spot for a Sunday lunch!

What Partridge says

Hotel Endsleigh offers hos-paw-tality at its finest. I was in my element with so many acres of fantastic gardens and woodland to sniff and explore. The location couldn’t be better for us four-legs, just a stick’s throw from some of my favourite walking spots on the moors, and with tasty treats and a comfy bed to enjoy in our room, what’s not to wag about
