Kernowine – Falmouth

Introduction

Kernowine

This minimalist little wine bar and bottle shop is located in the centre of Falmouth and offers a great space to sit and enjoy some unusual varieties of wine, paired with delicious sharing boards with your four-legged friend at your heels. There’s a super-relaxed and friendly vibe, bistro-style tables and bar seating, as well as plenty of outdoor seating with heaters. Not just for wine afficionados, Kernowine is designed for anyone looking to try something new and learn about the  wine’s origins.

It’s the kind of welcoming space that you could while away a couple of hours over a tasty brunch or a couple of sharing boards with friends, not forgetting your canine pal of course!

Dine with your dog

Dogs are very welcome at Kernowine and will be spoilt rotten too, with a lots of fuss, a water bowl and tasty treats.

On the menu

Along with the Pinot Noirs and the Chardonnays, there’s plenty of new and interesting grape varieties to sample – try a fresh and super-citrusy Sardinian Vermentino or an aromatic Alsace Gewurztraminer. Orange wine lovers will fall for the dry-honeyed Slovenian orange and for those obsessed pink wine, there’s a delicately spicy Provence rosè – its guaranteed you’ll discover a new favourite tipple.

There’s also a brilliant cocktail/mocktail list and a selection of craft beers, ales and ciders. Foodies will love the tasty sharing boards created from local artisan produce where you can choose between a fish-focussed Surf Board, a Turf Board, including a mix of Cornish charcuterie or an Earth Board – the vegan alternative including vegan cheese, pate and dried apricots. Cheese lovers won’t be disappointed with the cheeseboard spread, served with honey, figs and crackers – all boards are served with the insanely good Coombeshead sourdough – and if you’re after something sweet, try the dessert board, served with clotted cream and fruit.

There’s also a selection of tempting lunch plates – think lobster rolls, a roast beef bagel with horseradish and rocket and vegan halloumi with roasted vegetables. At weekends you can tuck into bottomless or boozy brunches combining all the breakfast classics with a modern twist. Owners Derek and Natasha aim to work with as many local suppliers as possible so you can be guaranteed a true taste of Kernow.

Monthly tastings are also offered and if you’re wanting to spend the afternoon at the beach or walking the South West Coast Path, then why not grab a picnic hamper (available on request).

Where to walk

We love blue flag, Gyllyngvase Beach – a beautiful bay about 20 minutes’ walk across to the opposite side of town with a great dog-friendly beach café at the edge of the sands. A little further around the coast, you’ll find Swanpool Beach – starting at Gyllngvase, take the coastal path south towards Swanpool – a great route for your dog to explore rocky coves, inlets and grassy hills along the way.

What Partridge says

My humans were very happy to sip a lot of wine here, and I was just as content to have tasty bits from their meat boards – yummy – as well as lots of fuss from the friendly staff – let’s call it a win, win!
