Fowey Hall

Introduction

Fowey Hall

Built over a century ago as a family home, by Sir Charles Hanson, Fowey Hall, now a listed building, offers all the grandeur of a traditional coastal manor; offering contemporary, dog-friendly luxury in a relaxed setting, with top-notch facilities, where dogs are welcome to enjoy the stunning grounds as well as dine with you in the bar and lounge, Garden Room and terrace. There are 60 bedrooms including the brand new Lantic Bay and Polruan Suites, built above the spa with spectacular sea views and bespoke wooden furniture by local craftsmen.

Additional new rooms and suites are located in the garden wing, perched above the outdoor pool with a pared-back aesthetic; all of the bedrooms and suites are dog-friendly, some of which have direct access to the garden. Your pooch will be made to feel welcome with a Woof pack including a tennis ball, doggie treats and blanket, along with the essentials including a dog bowl and poo bags.

Fowey Hall offers laidback luxury at its utmost – retaining the unique character of the Victorian seaside retreat, boasting beautiful vaulted ceilings, wood paneled public rooms, French furniture and elaborate fireplaces in the lounges, all of which are dog friendly. Think playful and fun – a contemporary space where child and dog-friendly luxury is provided in a relaxed setting.

The hotel underwent a multi-million revamp in 2023 including a heated outdoor pool, spa relaxation room and 24 new bedrooms and suites with sweeping sea views. Expect lashings of comfort and plenty of cosy corners to ensconce yourself, with your furry friend at your feet.

Plunge yourself into the new heated outdoor pool and lounge on the Victorian terrace – where dogs are welcome to join you – soaking up the estuary views or explore the beautiful gardens. The revamped spa with its new relaxation room and terrace is a superb spot to recharge, and there’s an impressive library and games room to keep children entertained. The Fowey Hall team are friendly and welcoming, making you and your canine pals feel at ease, the moment you step through the door.

Where to walk

With a prime position on the south coast of Cornwall, Fowey Hall sits on a quiet hillside with acres of beautifully manicured gardens and stunning estuary views. It’s a quaint spot to explore with your four-legged pals, with gorgeous coastal walks and hidden coves to explore.

There are several dog-friendly year-round beaches in walking distance, along with ample walking routes along the South West Coast Path. The nearest seasonal beach from the hotel is Readymoney Cove, a picturesque spot, just a 15-minute stroll away – with its winding path up to the ruins of St Catherine’s Castle – built in 1536 by Henry VIII. The cove is dog friendly between Easter day and 1 st October. Nearby, both Polridmouth Cove and Menabilly Beach are dog friendly year-round and if you’re feeling like a good stretch of the legs, you you can walk from the hotel within about 45 minutes. Both beaches are delightful spots to spend an afternoon, with lots of little footpaths to explore.

Alternatively, drive to the nearby car park at the top of Fowey, where you can park up and explore the beaches that sit just 15-minutes walk away.

Dine with your dog

Dogs are welcome to join you for both evening meals and breakfast in the Morning Room Restaurant, where a fleece blanket and a water bowl will be set out next to your table. There’s also doggie dining for your four-legged friends to enjoy, offering an A Là Bark Menu or a Waggy Tails Tea Time treat.

And for the humans, the hotel has you covered with slow breakfasts, light lunches, family feasts and pre-prepared picnics. Tuck into locally-sourced ingredients including a variety of meat and game from local farms, as well as seafood landed by Fowey’s fishermen. The a la carte menu is brimming with seasonal dishes including market specials; think succulent tiger prawns, fresh handpicked mussels and samphire, all from Cornish shores.

Private dining is available in the Green Room – accommodating between ten and 30 guests.

For those who’d prefer to eat out, The Galleon in Fowey has a terrace situated right by the river, offering a lovely spot to sit and watch the boats on the estuary. Appleton’s is a particular favourite of ours, located at the hub of Fowey’s busy Fore Street – the two-storey restaurant welcomes dogs on the ground floor where they will be looked after with a water bowl and treat.

We also love the informality of Pinxto, tapas bar, where your dog is welcome to join you inside and out; a superb spot tuck into Spanish-style small plates, sherry and wines – especially when the weather is good, bringing a European vibe to the town. For seafood lovers, there’s North Street Kitchen where dogs are welcome to join you in a rustic open plan, indoor-outdoor restaurant with views over the Fowey estuary – daily-changing menus are packed with seasonal produce and freshest catch of the day.

What Partridge says

Fowey Hall is as much of a treat for us four-legs as it is our human companions. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and felt pampered from the minute I landed my paws through the door, relishing in the beautiful grounds, perfect to play with my new tennis ball in, the yummiest treats in the room, as well as the chance to accompany my humans in the dog-friendly eating areas, for some of the best sniffs I’ve experienced! Fellow canine companions, master your begging-tactics in a bid for your owners to visit!
