Introduction

Experience a luxe countryside escape on the edge of Dartmoor with your four-legged friend at your side. The Horn of Plenty offers a vibrant home-from-home within rural surrounds. The ideal staycation, enjoy a peaceful 18th century Country Manor Hotel – built in 1866 for the Mine Captain, James Richards, with dotted chimneys still visible from the patio. A reminder of its copper and tin mining past – surrounded by green fields, and dreamiest views across the Tamar Valley.

There are twelve dog-friendly rooms available – spread across the Old Coach House and the New Coach House. Here your four-legged friend will find a gourmet Bob & Lush dinner, as a welcome treat for the first night of your stay, along with a water bowl. There is a hose located outside to clean your pup down if needed, and towels are provided on request. Enjoy the pretty terrace gardens with your furry sidekick – where afternoon tea is served in the summer.

Local seasonal cuisine and an elegant house, home to period features; think wooden floors, high ceilings, picture windows and a traditional charm fused with a contemporary style. A much loved dog-friendly Devon address.

Where to walk

The Tamar Valley sits just below the hotel, offering a myriad of dog friendly walking trails. With Dartmoor National Park in easy reach of 15-minutes drive.

Dine with your dog

Sadly dogs aren’t permitted to join guests in the restaurant. They are welcome to accompany you for pre-dinner drinks in the library, and on quiet evenings, a table can also be set up, should you wish to dine with your canine pal, settle in for the evening and enjoy beautifully presented plates of quality local fare.

For those preferring to dine out, you can be rest assured that all of the local pubs are dog friendly. We particularly like the Dartmoor Inn at Lydford, serving local, seasonal produce with a daily-changing menu.

My stay at the Horn of Plenty was a real treat, such a great spot for us four-legs. With pawesome gardens to play in, a terrace to relax and watch the buzzards flying across the valley, and a dog-friendly library to chill out with our human companions. It was made all the better with a gourmet dinner on arrival and the unlimited choice of walks, right on the doorstep.
