The Lugger – Portloe

Introduction

Your dog will be in canine-heaven at The Lugger, situated in one of the last unspoiled hamlets in Cornwall, at the centre of the Cornish coastal path, overlooking the picture-perfect cove at Portloe.

This 17th century smuggler’s inn is positioned right on the waters edge of the peaceful fishing port, offering a welcome oasis in the middle of nowhere, boasting 22 dog friendly rooms with the option to dine in the lounge with your canine companion.

Kick back and enjoy a stylish yet homely retreat with the knowledge that your four-legged friend will receive lots of fuss form the dog-loving staff, a breakfast sausage and doggie biscuits in your goody bag on departure.

Where to walk

Take in the sights of the Rosland Heritage Coast, following the South West Coast Path south to Nare Head and Portscatho, or north to Gorran Haven.

The Lugger is perched so close to the sea, that the air is salt-fresh, providing a calm and tranquil setting for a romantic getaway or restorative escape – a Cornish bolthole to soak up staggering views, whatever the season.

Dine with your dog

Settle with your dog and enjoy seasonal produce in the hotel’s cosy lounge. Everything is made on the premises, from the bread served daily, to the ice cream and sorbets used in the desserts. Your dog is welcome to tuck into their dinner by your side.

Being so close to the sea, its no surprise that the bountiful fresh fish in Portloe, is factored largely into the menus, with dishes including steamed Monkfish, tomato and fennel salad with crab bisque, roasted miso cod, tempura red mullet, sesame carrot and pak choi and seared scallop with creamed cauliflower, black pudding, watercress and apple.

What Partridge says

Canine heaven certainly does live here!

With a chicken breast of dreams for supper, a yummy sausage for breakfast, treats for the journey homeward and miles of coastal path to explore, I couldn’t ask for a better break from a busy schedule.
