The Bodmin Jail Hotel is a brand new opening for 2021, following a complete transformation. As a former prison, this dog-friendly hotel has an incredible history that has been preserved and showcased in luxurious style.
Sensitively restored, the hotel has been transformed from the walls of an 18th century prison into a 4-star boutique hotel and is the showpiece of a £70 million project.
Ideally located in the heart of Cornwall, just a short drive with take you to both coasts, as well as Bodmin moor. This unique destination-hotel seamlessly blends old with new and gives Cornish heritage a luxurious twist. The 70 bedrooms – each with their own unique story to tell – have been created by combining three former cells, retaining many authentic features.
Behind original cell doors, guests will discover freestanding baths, walk-in showers and indulgent bedding – all set to the backdrop of weathered stonewalls. There are 16 dog-friendly rooms available, all situated on the ground floor – ten in the civil wing and a further six in the navel wing – all with a comfy bed, water bowl and tasty treats to keep your four-legged friend happy and comfortable for the duration of their stay.
Bodmin Jail Hotel is perfectly positioned within thirty-minutes from ample coves and sandy beaches of both coasts, that will be sure to keep your furry friends tail wagging.
The Camel Trail, Named from the Cornish word for ‘crooked one’ – Kammel – begins just across from the jail’s entrance. Guests are welcome to hire bikes – with doggie trailers – to explore the trail travelling to the market towns, Padstow and Wadebridge, experiencing some of the most stunning scenery Cornwall has to offer such as waterfalls, creeks and hills, forests and rivers.
Bodmin moor can be reached within twenty-minutes by car, providing the ideal space for your canine pal to run free, picking endless exciting sniffs.
Enjoy a relaxed bistro dining experience at the Jolly Hangman’s Tavern, your four-legged friend at your heels; tuck into classic favourites such as fish and chips and Cornish pasties. The Tavern is open all day both to in-house and non- resident guests, and features a large outdoor eating area with heat lamps, situated in the prison courtyard.
Alternatively leave your pooch to rest in your room, whilst you indulge in some fine dining at The Chapel, which combines Gothic design with modern twists, incorporating a unique multi-projector system to project static or moving images onto the restaurant walls and ceiling, making it a truly immersive experience.
Cuisine at both restaurants is inspired by classic Cornish recipes, using the finest local and seasonal ingredients, with dishes infused with real Cornish flair – beautifully presented plates burst with flavour, offering unique variations on the norm.
Your four-legged friends will be charged at £25.00 per dog per night.
What a pawsome stay, I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend at the Bodmin Jail hotel, where I received lots of fuss from the staff, as well as a comfy bed and treats waiting for my arrival in our converted cell room. It was fun to accompany my humans for breakfast and lunch in the Jolly Hangman and I was happy to find the Camel trail right on our doorstep, as well as the expansive
moorland, and many exciting beach walks just a stick’s throw away.
